Love triangle stories have been in the film industry from the very early days. Love triangles turn even a very dull plot interesting. Though a very repetitive concept, this age old formula still works and gives the film industry some of its blockbuster movies. Even the early classic writers like William Shakespeare and Alexander Dumas had love triangle structure in their stories.
Some of these love triangle movies are bizarre, some romantic and some with full on drama but we are here to look at some of the unforgettable love triangle movies:-
1. The Notebook (2004)
PLOT: A poor and passionate young boy (Noah) falls desperately in love with rich young girl (Allie) over the summer. He gives her the sense of freedom but they eventually separate because their parents did not approve the boy because of the social difference. Later on the girl gets involved with another man (Lon Hammod) and they both are now engaged to be married. Noah and Allie meet again after several years and the sparks fly.
The movie is based on the book by Nicholas sparks “The Notebook”. Noah is played by Rayn Gosling, Allie by Rachel Mc. Adams and Lon by James Garner.
2. Kuch Kuch Hota hai. (1998)
Plot: A story of Anjali and Rahul, where Anjali is madly in love with her best friend Rahul. Rahul on the other end falls for another girl Tina. Years later, Rahul and the now-deceased Tina’s eight-year-old daughter attempts to reunite her father and Anjali.
Directed by Karan Johar, the movie was super hit and Shahrukh , Kajol and Rani Mukherjee stole many hearts.
3. Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997)
Plot: A boy Rahul( Shahrukh Khan) who does not believe in love, a girl Pooja(Madhuri Dixit)who believes that there is someone for everyone. It is also the story of Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) who believes that love is friendship and one day her dream will come true.
This love triangle made everyone believe that there is someone for all of us.
4. Pearl Harbour (2001)
Plot: Two lifelong friends’ Rafe and Danny are army pilots and meet a beautiful navy nurse Evelyn. Rafe leaves to take part in the war and back at home Evelyn finds comfort in Danny’s arm. They reunite and then the attack on Pearl Harbour happens.
The movie won an Oscar and stars Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett.
5. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)
Plot: A royal singer’s daughter Nandini falls in love with her father’s student Sameer, who came all the way from Italy to study music. But Nandini is already arranged to be married with someone else. The newlywed man discovers his wife’s love with Sameer and takes her back to unite them.
6. Dhadhkan (2000)
Plot: Dev a poor young man and Anjali the rich young girl are madly in love. Anjali’s parents do not approve Dev as he is from a poor background. Anjali is forced to marry Ram, a rich man. Anjali after a while warms up to Ram, when suddenly Dev returns in her life after hitting a fortune.
7. Taal (1999)
Plot: A UK based man Manav meets a girl Mansi, the daughter of a singer and they both get attracted to each other. The boy’s parents did not treat the girl and the father well when they went to meet them. To improve her career Mansi moves on in life and later meets Vikrant Kapoor, who helped her get started in life. She agrees to marry Vikrant when Manav comes back in hope of winning Mansi’s love back.
8. Rehna Hai Tere Dil Me(2001)
Plot: This is a story of a young girl who is torn between a mild mannered suitor and an obsessive lover. R. Madhvan as Madhav falls in love at first sight with Dia Mirza as Reena. Madhav impersonates himself as Rajiv, her suitor to win over Reena.
9. Dostana (2008)
Plot: To secure an apartment in Miami two straight guys pretend to be gay. Both of them fall for their roommate Neha. They secretly try to win her heart though continuing to pretend being gay. In the mean time Neha falls for her new Boss.
The movie was directed by Tarun Mansukhani and star casts include Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bacchan, John Abraham and Bobby Deol.
10. Sweet Home Alabama. (2002)
Plot: A romantic comedy where a young girl Melanie has reinvented herself as the New York socialite. She is now engaged to the most eligible bachelor in the city. Melanie goes back to her hometown to bury the secret that has been haunting her over the years and also meet Jake her high school boyfriend whom she married and has not yet divorced.
