Love is an inexhaustible topic and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner it is time to snuggle with your loved one and enjoy a great rom-com. Apart from the love bit, some of these movies have epic marriage proposal scenes which will make you swoon and can even serve as an inspiration. Here are the memorable scenes from our favourite picks.
We must not forget our own desi version of love from Bollywood before we move overseas. And one cannot even forget the sizzling chemistry between Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. It was not love at first sight, but the hearts which beat together cannot stay away from each other for long. When Ranbir drops at Deepika’s house on 31st night armed with flowers and cake, we suspect the inevitable. And then Ranbir proposes in a suave manner and promises to have ‘dal-chawal’ for the rest of his life.
It was a low-key affair in Rang De Basanti, but what added charm to the entire proposal is the song ‘tu bin bataye’; the whole sequence was aesthetically shot. And what better way to pop the question to your girlfriend than to do it amidst friends? This was one of the best moments of the movie and Soha Ali Khan and Madhavan were at their best.
Aisha may not have been truthful to Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’, but the movie had everything that every girl dreamt of: BFFS, fashion, and lots of handsome men. But it was the end of the movie which stole our heart especially when the charismatic Abhay Deol proposed to Aisha aka Sonam Kapoor. In a typical modern Romeo meets Juliet scene, Abhay throws pebbles at the girl’s window, thankfully not waking the entire neighborhood, grabs a ladder and gets inside the balcony to express his love and pop the vital question.
Break ke Baad has been quite a remarkable movie in many ways; this is not your typical love story because the hero and the heroine decide to break up for god knows how many times. And finally after all the fiascos and heartbreaks, an unsettled and uncertain Deepika decides to get hitched only after hearing that Imran Khan is getting married. And she asks the question by sitting down on her knee. It is good to see that even girls can pop the question in the proverbial manner.
You think of Emran Hashmi and you have the picture of a serial kisser. Well, Enmran Hashmi did all this and also made an epic proposal in Jannat. Although the scene was almost like a violent slasher movie with the broken glass and all, but it still created an impact on the impressionable mind.
Now, that we are done with Bollywood, let’s take a tour of Hollywood beginning with my personal favorite Sex and the City. Big and Carrie’s love story has been iconic in many ways; there have been a series of breakups and even a jilted bride at the altar could not stop Carrie and Big having their happily-ever- after. And the big question was popped at the closet. And instead of a ring, the deal was sealed with a shoe with a diamond! It is one of the most interesting proposals ever witnessed in a movie.
If Carrie spells fashion, Reese spells sophistication and when the Western country girl goes to New York and becomes an upmarket designer, it becomes difficult for the country boy to win his heart in Sweet Home Alabama. Of course, at the end of the day love rules and Reese escapes a wedding with her current fiancée and a rain-drenched Reese pops the question amidst thunder, lightning and rain. If you want to witness the fine battle of sexes, you must watch the epic end with the epic proposal.
Only a girl like Sarah can get the heart of the human robot. But there is a small glitch in this otherwise perfect love story of Sweet November. Sarah is terminally ill and it takes a while for the boy to understand that the only way to lead a fairy-tale romance is by spending time with her. In a beautiful scene, he gifts Sarah 11 gifts granting all her wishes. This scene has high emotional value, and it will bring tears to your eyes.
And you cannot forget Twilight, which is one of the most iconic scenes of the series. Only an Edward can propose Bella in such a beautiful manner.
If you talk about public proposal, you have to take reference from Johnny Cash who proposed to his stage partner June Carter in an extremely emotional scene.
