5 Love Stories which are Intricately Connected with Various Modes of Transport

Come on…you have to agree that some of the best moments in love stories have taken place as the train wheezes past forest and fields. Most of the lovers are thrown together in a beautiful coincidence and the chance encounter often proves to be the most beautiful encounter in the lives of our lovers. Friday Fans salute the various modes of transport without which many of the movies will fall flat.

Let’s begin with the Imtiaz Ali rom-com ‘Jab We Met’. The entire journey started in a train where the depressed young man meets the vivacious Punjabi girl. The overnight journey becomes an adventure of a lifetime. Sparks fly and after a series of humorous and serendipitous mix-ups the duo are thrown together for life.

The train seemed to play an integral role in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. If Raj had not given his hand to Simran to help her board the train, the love story would not have started. The end seems to be symbolic in every possible way as Simran runs towards her lover Raj, their hands meet at the nick of time and the day is saved. And the hero gets the girl.

And if we are talking about love stories, it is literally impossible to forget U, Me aur Hum, the famous romance which started on a ship. Ajay meets the love of his life Kajol in the course of a cruise. The typical Casanova falls for the wide-eyed beautiful waitress who has a w itty and sharp tongue. And of course love blossoms. Of course, the film has taken a few references from another iconic movie “The Notebook”, but despite that the film has its own charm especially when the two lovers meet for a stolen moment on the deck of the ship.

Do you remember the lesser-known movie of Amitabh Bacchan and Aruna Irani? This 1972- adventure comedy had an ensemble cast full of comedians. The entire bus journey became an adventure of a lifetime. This film is the first film where Amitabh was cast as the lead. And it was on bus, that love story blossomed between the hero and the heroine.

And love not only happens on land, it happens in the sky as well. A shit-scared Kajol in hope of getting back her estranged boyfriend boards the airplane and meets the cunning con man Ajay. Can love happen? Apparently, yes as Ajay seems to know the perfect tricks to make Kajol comfortable. Pyar to Hona hi Tha is one of the best-made remakes in Bollywood with healthy doses of love, humour and suspense.
