A quick guide through the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Ten years ago which Marvel comic fan would have envisioned the arduous yet extraordinary “MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE”. All they had was a not so incredible HULK until ……*drum rolls*…. Robert Downey Jr starrer IRON MAN (2008) laid the foundations of a universe even the non comic fans would be geeking over for years.

Next in line was The Incredible Hulk,which received favourable reviews because of the amazing performance by Edward Norton. And Thor got the ladies drooling with his rugged looks and golden tresses.

(Nobody can rock that look better than Chris Hemsworth.)

Now fast forward to 2017,there have been a whooping 17 movies(with many still to come), tv shows, one-off movies, web series, comics and more. In words of Director Fury himself, “You’ve become part of a bigger universe”. With the row of Marvel films coming out this year, fans are already planning their binge to brush up on all the history that’s been shown in the last decade of Marvel films. Whether you’ve seen them all before or not, it’s always a good idea to watch these films (over and over again!). But with all the amazingly orchestrated chaos, it can be pretty tough to keep on top of it all.

So behold: The entire MCU in the right chronological order ->

PHASE I
The first set of movies introduces the main universe in which the films are set, as well as core characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Nick Fury, and organizations such as S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA. Many of the films in Phase One focus on the Tesseract, an alien artifact that is later established as one of the six Infinity Stones. The final film, The Avengers, involves the villain Loki allying with the Chitauri to steal the Tesseract and conquer Earth, leading to the formation of the Avengers.

While watching the movies, it’s best to start off with Captain America : The First Avenger(2011).

The First Avenger

Yes, despite the fact that Iron Man came much much earlier.Captain America was after all (as the name suggests) the first avenger.

And then we jump to our favourite.Genius,billionaire,playboy, philanthropist that started it all in Iron Man(2008);

Iron Man

Black Widow and War Machine got their debut in Iron Man 2(2010);

Iron Man 2(2010)

Followed by Ed Norton’s brief run as The Hulk who later got replaced by Mark Rufallo for the rest of the movies.

you are unworthy

We got to meet some really important Asgardians in Thor.(Tom Hiddleston is important Y’all)

Everything inching towards the infinitely hyped-up intersection of the above mentioned movies. The team is finally assembled in The Avengers(2012).

The Avengers (2012)

PHASE II
The second phase focuses on the post-battle scenario of New York, exploits of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. , introduces more heroes including Falcon, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Ant-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy (consisting of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Groot) and further explains the origins of the Infinity Stones. In the second Captain America movie, the terrorist group HYDRA is revealed to have been operating within S.H.I.E.L.D., resulting in the agency’s collapse. Now acting without assistance from S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers work solo in order to bring down HYDRA, but unintentionally spawn a more dangerous adversary in the form of the hostile artificial intelligence, Ultron.

So you can start this phase with the Iron Brigade in Iron Man 3(2013);

Iron Man 3 (2013)

For a brief pause we return to Asgard where we learn about AETHER the other infinity stone in Thor: The Dark World(2013);

Thor - The Dark World(2013)

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you Captain America: The Winter Soldier(2014);(now with 70% more Hydra)

This is not Freedom. It is Fear

Another Infinity stone gets revealed but don’t worry Guardians of the Galaxy(2014) rush to the rescue. After all,they are there to guard the Galaxy and stuff.

Avengers - Age Of Ultron

This was all just to warm us up for Avengers : Age Of Ultron. (Just go ahead and watch this one,words aren’t enough to describe it).

Avengers - Age Of Ultron

Followed by the last movie of this phase introducing the not so super by nature; superhero Ant Man(2015).

PHASE III
Phase Three is set during a time of discord generated from the aftermath of Ultron’s attack against the Earth. With public opinion of superheroes becoming increasingly divided, the Avengers become fragmented. In the midst of the Avengers’ turmoils, a number of new characters are introduced such as Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Mantis, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel. Thanos’s plot to collect all of the Infinity Stones and take over Earth, which began late in Phase One, is drawn to a close in this saga.

Grab a large tub of popcorn because the set of movies in this phase is all the excitement you need in your life.
We begin with drama and Captain America: Civil War(2016) where two of our favorite superheroes fight each other.Captain America Civil War(2016)

Next up with much sorcery and Benedict Cumberbatch *sigh* Doctor Strange (2016) comes in to bend all our notions of reality.

Doctor Strange (2016)

#AwesomeMixTape2… Guardian of the Galaxy(2017);

Spider-man - Homecoming

Young Spidey? Or Young Aunt?? Spider-man: Homecoming(2017);

Thor - Ragnarok (2017

And off to Asgard again with Thor: Ragnarok(2017); where we get to see our  Norse God in full action.

That’s all for the ones that have already released.

But we’re still eagerly waiting for Black Panther(2018) annnnnnndddddd the biggest crossover in the history of crossovers … Avengers: Infinity War(2019) with no less than 60 characters sharing the screen space in it. (Excited much??)

Avengers - Infinity War(2019)

The sequel to Infinity war will mark the end of phase III as we know it and usher a new beginning in MCU. With maybe Adam warlock playing a major part in them.*Fingers crossed*

(Fun fact -> Phil Coulson, portrayed by Clark Gregg, is an original character to the MCU and the only character to appear across all the different media of the MCU.)

Don’t waste time,Binge on people!

get out of here
