Since time immemorial Bengalis have been in love with mystery and detectives. Feluda, Byomkesh, Kiriti, Kakababu and the list continues. But this summer, debutant director Abhirup Ghosh is all set to introduce us to a new detective in town, ‘K’. We decided to strike a conversation with this detective played by Rudranil Ghosh.
Why did you choose this movie, especially when the entire cast, leaving aside you and Rajatava Dutta is new?
Ans- We, do have this reputation of doing movies that others will never ever think of doing. Everyone else is a debutant in this project, but it does not matter to me. I love to take up projects which are new and experimental, irrespective of any other factors.
Tell us something about the character you play.
We have grown up watching and reading Feluda, Byomkesh or Kakababu and have always dreamt of becoming a detective. But we would never have dared to be one, since these detectives are legends and are off limits for a common boy or any person. But I play a detective who has grown up admiring the legendary detectives and has went on to become a detective that any of us can be. He is simple and ordinary and that is the USP of this movie.
Why do you think this movie is different from the rest?
This movie is a small budget movie. We were not given any extravagant vanity vans or make up persons or spots. Everything was limited to the basics but this movie has a strong and interesting story line. Bengali films have hardly explored the sci-fi genre and this film has intelligently explored this genre. I am game for new ideas and experimentations and ofcourse we need to encourage new directors like Abhirup Ghosh to help the industry move forward.
