A Gujarati family is out on a foreign trip, where their daughter gets engaged to Rupen. After a
month long trip, just on the verge of taking the flight back home, the girl realizes that she has
lost her engagement ring, a family heirloom of Rupen. She misses her flight and runs back to the
tour guide and hires him again, to help her find the ring.
Like most of Imtiaz Ali’s film, the storyline for Jab Harry Met Sejal, remains simple, and
journey, both inward and outward is an integral part of the story line. As Harry and Sejal start
their journey for the ring, they eventually meet their inner soul and the rest, is as evident as any
Imtiaz Ali movie. The heroine is engaged to be married to someone but falls in love with
someone else. But the most striking feature of his movies always remains soul searching and the
journey to the inner soul, but unfortunately this movie somehow lacked it. We kept expecting
there will be some story which will eventually unfold about Harry, but the movie ended
disappointing the audience.
Even though the story was wafer thin, and you may find many subplots to be useless, like the
fight in the night club or the illegal immigrants who spoke Bengali, yet Anushka Sharma and
Shah Rukh Khan gave in their best and will amaze you with their performance. Shah Rukh Khan
will steal the hearts of all who believes in Romance, thanks to his intense performance and
stunning look. Anushka Sharma is equally wonderful in her Gujarati avatar, perfect with her
accent and body language.
There are some points, where you might wonder, was the ring really lost or was it just a way for
the poor little rich girl to have some fun before getting sucked up in the life of eternal boredom?!
But there was no means to know it. The movie ended with a sweet taste, but there was always a
feeling of something missing. The songs however have lived up to the expectations, even though
the film did not.
