The stage is set, there is a some sparkly excitement in the air. And there is only one reason for that. Oscar 2018 is just round the corner, and all cine lovers are making their own list of favorites. Let’s see if your predictions match with us.
There is one recurrent theme in this year’s Oscar; there is no theme at all. No single movie has been predicted as the frontrunner because there are a number of different films which have the potential to win it big this time.
The first name that obviously comes to the mind is Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’. This film has been appreciated in all the circuits; the critics loved it, the filmmakers are all praise for it and it has immensely impressed the audience.
One movie which has effortlessly made its presence felt in the top 10, is ‘The Shape of Water’ by Guillermo del Toro. The love story between a fish-man and a mute woman will redefine your conventional ideas of romance. It is the passion between two people in love which will create a special space in your heart.
When it comes to Oscars, there has to be at least one entry from the master storyteller Steven Spielberg. His ‘The Post’ has all the elements to be successful in Oscars; it is the true story of Washington Post’s fight against Nixon’s White House First Amendment’s Right to publish all the Pentagon Papers. Streep is absolutely brilliant in her role as the first female publisher in the Post and that is something to watch out for. The other thing is definitely the camaraderie between Hanks and Streep.
Another strong contender for Oscar is the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Although many critics are skeptic about the final outcome, fellow actors are absolutely routing for this Woody Harelson, Sam Rockwell and Frances McDormand multi-starrer.
Greta Gerwig’s creation Lady Bird has Saoirse Ronan who was previously nominated for Oscar, and is again on the run for the award. Even Laurie Metcalf who portrays Lady Bird’s mother is also a major contender in the Supporting Actress category.
One interesting entry in this year’s Oscar is the Battle of the Sexes. The epic tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King has been revisited. Both Steve Carell and Emma Stone have received their nominations for this movie and this biopic might catch the fancy of the Academy jury.
