Rajnikanth is on a roll these days. The reason is simple. He has some important releases lined up this year. Shankar’s 2.0, the sequel to the famous blockbuster and P. Ranjith’s Kaala will be released on April 27th.
It has also been notified by Sun Pictures that Rajnikanth will be part of their next production which will be directed by Kartik Subbaraj. This new movie will most likely come out in 2019. This movie will be promoted by the media baron Kalanithi Maran.
While 2.0 is a sci-fi movie, Kaala is an upcoming gangster movie in Tamil language. This film along with the superstar will also find Huma Quereshi, Nana Patekar in leading roles and will be produced by Wunderbar Films. Ranjith has earlier directed Rajnikanth in Kabali which was released in 2016. Previously, the role of the female protagonist was offered to Vidya Balan. She declined which was later offered to Huma. The Marathi actress Anjali Patel will also be seen in a prominent role. She shared a post through Twitter and confirmed the news.
A lot of members of the technical crew was retained for Kaala. But it is known that A. Sreekar Prasad has replaced the film’s editor Praveen K.L. in the pre-production stage. Nana Patekar who will be playing the role of a politician will be seen as the main antagonist in the movie.
The film’s shooting schedule started in May 2017 in Mumbai where the lead actor of the movie Rajnikanth was part of the first schedule. Due to heavy rainfall, the team took a break and a set was established in Chennai with Mumbai as the backdrop.
The name ‘Kaala’ has a direct reference to Lord Yama who is known as the god of death. Apparently, Anand Mahindra was very interested in the jeep which was used in the first poster of Kaala. As per his tweet, he would love to have that jeep for his auto museum.
