Blade runner 2049 is a Sci-fi film which is sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic. Blade runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista.
This movie is set after 30 years when the blade runner Harrison Ford fell in love with one of the replicants Racheal when chasing down androids. Earth’s ecosystem has now collapsed and the world is crippled and reliant on replicant-tended protein farms. The Tyrell Corporation — responsible for those renegade “skin jobs” and the remarkable Rachael — has long-since gone bankrupt and has been bought out and reskinned as the Wallace Corporation, which keeps the underclass sustained with synthetic gruel and titillated by sexy holographic companions.
The new blade runner from the Los Angeles Police Department known as officer K played by Ryan Gosling is also hunting and retiring older model replicants. While doing so he unearths a very long buried secret that the replicants can reproduce and this news can cause a great lot of trouble if comes out in the open. This secret has the potential to bring chaos to the society. Therefore Officer K is ordered to destroy all the evidence and find out the ‘child’ that was born. In the process of that investigation he comes across some old birth records where he finds that there were two children born on the same day with identical DNA, a boy and a girl and only the boy survives now. Further on the investigation Officer K meets a memory designer Dr. Ana Stelline about a dream about his childhood. This dream and the explanation given by the doctor makes him believe that he is the child who was born. He then meets Rick Deckard played by Harrison Ford who was the child’s father and has been in hiding for the last 30 years in the ruins of Los Angeles.
Blade runner 2049 is visually stunning and has a remarkable narrative. The philosophy behind the movie is very believable and makes you wonder about what Arthur C. Clarke once wrote: “either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.” It is a movie which makes you ask a lot of existential questions about how to define human entity.
Blade runner 2049 seems to be a very worthy sequel to Scott’s blade runner and Denis Villeneuve has done a fantastic job with it. This movie is like an art which can be watched even without any sounds. The visual effects are profound and is a must watch movie in theatres.
Blade runner is one of the most exciting films ever made with a brilliant ending. The directions have made an excellent final cut leaving the audience still contemplating the question whether Deckard is a real human or a replicant. The fans are left with the same unanswered question once again.
Along with the exceptional cinematography the performances of both ryan gosling and Harrison ford are also outstanding. The movie has been labelled as visually awesome and worth 35years wait. The critics have all praises for this thoughtful science fiction.
