As the new detective is all set to step in Kolkata, we caught up with Rajatava Dutta for a quick chat about his character, the movie and more.
What made you take this role up?
Ans- My love for new and also my interest to help the growth of Bengali Film Industry. Abhirup Ghosh gave up his career in the IT sector to make this film, it was his dedication and love that stirred me. If we do not support these new directors and crew, how can we expect the film industry to grow?
So is this a detective movie? Can we compare it with the likes of ‘Byomkesh’ or ‘Feluda’?
Ans- Byomkesh and Feluda or the likes are legends. We look up to them, we admire them, we can dream of being like them, but we can never be like them, atleast not everyone can be like them. But ‘K’ is someone who is as ordinary as we are, in our daily life and we can all relate to him at some level. And tagging this as a detective movie will not justify it. There is an element of Sci-Fi as well.
Ans- Yes, this has been quite an innovation from Abhirup’s part. He has explored the beauty of Sci-Fi in this movie. Sci-Fi has been hardly explored in Bengali movies and honestly speaking, a good Sci-Fi involves a good expense, but to offer something this good in such a low budget is simply wonderful. You will never feel that any of the elements went over the top. It’s perfectly balanced.
Why this genre?
I loved the fact that Abhirup has made this movie with such honesty. He did not decide to make something on a subject that is safe, rather he made a movie on a subject he loves to watch. I am pretty sure audience will enjoy this movie.
What is your character like? Are you more like Magan Lal Meghraj?
You cannot tag me as a negative character, nor can you tag me as a positive one. I play a crucial character and if you want to know about it, you need to watch it.
