Indians are often denoted synonymous with cricket, spicy curries and Bollywood. Years in and out, Bollywood film industry has given out hundreds of movies for the world to acclaim. Honestly, nothing has changed with our viewing habits when it comes to cricket or to that of movies; however, a lot has changed how movies are produced, thanks to the revolutionary filmmakers. Here, we give you 10 Bollywood Production houses that do wonders with their name alone.
1.Yash Raj Films
Well, this one’s pretty obvious, yea? The house founded by Late Yash Chopra, YRF is the biggest house in terms of revenue numbers, productions and castings. The most notable flicks generated in the Indian History like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, ‘Ek Tha Tiger, Sultan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan; are all produced by YRF. The owner, Mr. Yash Chopra, died during the shoot of Jab Tak Hai Jaan and the house is now being run by his sons Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra.
2.Balaji Motion Pictures
Balaji Motion Pictures was introduced in the year 2001 as a subsidiary of Balaji Telefilms owned by actor Jeetendra. The first Bollywood film to be produced by Balaji was ‘Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta,’ and oh boy, hasn’t it come a long way? The house managed by Jeetendra’s wife Shobha Kapoor and daughter Ekta Kapoor has produced big names like Shootout at Lokhandwala, Ek Villian, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai and The Dirty Picture.
Phaaa se? Phantom! A relatively new house Phantom managed to get itself a big name so quick, so much so, that it was placed at the 12th position in terms of popularity and recent success. Founded in 2011 collectively by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena, the first movie to have been produced by this one was Lootera. Knowing no boundaries, the house further went ahead to produce Queen, NH10, Bombay Velvet, Shaandaar and Udta Punjab amongst others. Phantom movies have also been acclaimed at international film festivals like Cannes and IFFI.
Better known as the company to have a monopoly in terms of musical entertainment, founded by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series didn’t take long to make it big in the production field too. The house that is now managed by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar has produced the most phenomenal movies like Aashiqui (both 1 and 2), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Ready, Baby and Airlift.
This particular joint venture of Network 18 Media has made it too big in too little span of time; just about ten years to be precise. Being one of its own kind in the Indian market, this studio model-based motion picture first ventured into production in 2008 with Halla Bol. Overall these years, Viacom 18 collaborated with other production houses to yield a total of 70 movies; Force 2, Drishyam and Gabbar is Back being a few.
6.Aamir Khan Film Production
When it comes to Amir Khan, his name is just enough to let’s not even get to his production. Taking it to a new level, just how he likes it, Aamir started his own banner back in 2001 and has only given us meaningful hits ever since. Apart from movies like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, and Dangal; Aamir and Kiran Rao have also given us the most important and essential eye-opener of all times ‘Satyamev Jayate’ under this banner.
7.UTV Motion Pictures
As a family/subsidiary of Walt Disney Co, UTV took off in the year 2004, founded by Ronnie Screwvala. Don’t we all very well know its gonna be a good watch when it all begins with three perfect paint lines? Jodha Akbar, Race, ABCD, Rajneeti and Rang De Basanti are just a few notable flicks produced under UTV.
Founded by Arjun Lulla, Eros was actually one of the very few Indian companies to have been listed on the London Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange. The production house started way back than a lot of others on the list, in 1980, and started off with the blockbuster Shaan. Other hits under Eros include Tanu Weds Manu, Rockstar, and Love Aaj Kal. Eros also ventures into the production of South Indian films.
“Aaa aa, aa, aa aa aa aa, umm aaa mmmm mm mm mmm, mmmm…..” If you did not sing this along after reading Dharma, what are you even doing on this list? Every Bolly lover knows Dharma – and for all the good reasons! The second most sought after banner, just behind YRF, this one started off with Dostana in 1980. This was established by Yash Johar and is now being (very well) taken care of by his son Karan Johar. Movies – you all know it- include K3G and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai amongst a whopping list of other super hits.
10.Red Chilies Entertainment
Established by the power couple, Gauri and SRK, the first movie to be ever released under this banner was Main Hoon Na. Apart from movies, RCE also ventures into other business like that of Feature Film Production, Ad Film Production, and VFX & animation. About thirty movies have been distributed by Red Chillies, a few notable being Happy New Year, Asoka and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.
