This is the story of a woman who has a speaking disability and who dreams to become a teacher. This film shows how she fights against all odds, and bureaucracy to change society’s attitude towards people who are specially-abled. Initially, the role was written for a male protagonist, but later on a female protagonist was decided upon, as a female lead would give the essential humane touch to the story. According to Rani, a lot of thought was given to the character.
The tagline of the movie reads as ‘What is life without hiccups?’ A meaningful story requires an intriguing title and the title served as a metaphor to various challenges, social stigma, prejudice and weaknesses. And it was none other than Aditya Chopra who came up with the unique name for the movie.
Rani, in this movie is diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, and it becomes a challenge for her to be a teacher. Society believes that she cannot teach because of her speaking disorder. This film would question about the various challenges faced by everyone in society and how a person can evolve and overcome those challenges.
